What are Conservatives promising to do for Leeds North West?

Tackle crime and anti-social behaviour
We will bring in instant grounding orders for police to deal with anti-social behaviour. We will impose minimum sentences for the worst crimes. We will abolish paperwork that keeps police behind desks rather than out of the beat. We will scrap early release schemes, under whatever guise.

Support local NHS services
We believe in excellent local services. We will put local hospitals - like the Wharfedale - at the heart of local community health care. We will not impose impersonal GP poly-clinics on anyone and we will stop services being sucked into the city centre.

Help families and older people
We will work with Leeds City Council to freeze council tax, raise the basic state pension, recognise marriage in the tax system, back couples in the benefits system and support young families with extra health visitors.

Transport - cleaner, greener and a fair deal for our area
We will reform decision-making on transport schemes to give more power back to local people. We will support Smarter Choices to help the environment. We will stop the third runway at Heathrow and instead build a new high speed rail network that includes Leeds. And yes, we will look again at Leeds SuperTram!

Rebuild the economy and create sustainable jobs
Approximately 80% of local people are employed by small businesses. We will help start-ups with tax breaks for new staff, we will reduce tax on businesses and we will open up public sector tendering to small firms. We will reform tax credits for research and development to encourage high tech manufacturing.

Help for schools and young people
We will bring in a new Technical Academy for Leeds, we will triple the number of apprenticeships. We will introduce a mentoring scheme for budding young entrepreneurs and we will provide 10,000 new fully-funded university places next year. We will give teachers and the heads real powers to restore discipline and we will create new, smaller schools.

Cap immigration
We will introduce a cap on the number of non-EU immigrants. We will introduce a proper new border police force that checks people in and out and we will be tough on illegal immigrants, whilst ensuring that genuine asylum-seekers are given refuge.
